A member of the Bangor School Committee has been charged with possession of child pornography.

Bangor Police say they initiated an investigation into allegations against John Hiatt, 38 of Bangor, in May of 2021. A female victim told authorities that Hiatt had allegedly removed and manipulated her personal digital files after becoming very angry with her. During the course of the investigation, search warrants were executed on numerous items of digital storage media.

John Hiatt is a member of the Bangor School Committee and is also the Treasurer for Penobscot County.

Police say no further information will be released at this time, as this is an ongoing investigation.
