Officials with Bangor High School are looking into reports of an inappropriate relationship between a staff member and a student.

When Did the School First Learn of This?

Superintendent James Tager sent a letter to the 'Bangor High School community' on Friday, May 26th about the investigation. He says school officials began getting reports of the alleged relationship on May 24th. As is required by law, school officials notified both the Bangor Police Department and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. All three agencies are now looking into the allegations.

How Are Administrators Supporting Other Students?

He goes on to say that he understands this kind of situation can impact other students in a variety of ways and he wants them to know that help and guidance is available.

If any student feels the need to talk to someone or has any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to a trusted teacher, counselor, social worker or administrator.

Tager says the first priority for all members of the Bangor School Department is to ensure the safety and well-being of all the students.

Is There Any Information About the Staff Member?

No details have been released about the identity of the staff member or the student allegedly involved in this case. Tager says it's more important to respect the privacy of all involved and to let the proper authorities look into it.

This investigation is ongoing.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
