The Decision to Suspend Saturday Bus Service in Bangor Didn't Come Easy

Bangor City Officials know that the decision to suspend bus service on Saturdays will inconvenience people who rely on it to get to work or school, but staffing shortages have forced their hand. Assistant City Manager Courtney O'Donnell says it was a tough decision.

We understand this change to the bus service will negatively impact some riders and want everyone to know that we did not reach this decision lightly.

She says they're working to restore full service as quickly as possible. Saturday service has the lowest ridership so this move made the most sense. In addition, this service interruption is the best option currently available, because it will avoid targeting a single community or neighborhood.

Closures Will Affect the Operation of the Bangor Transit Center, As Well

In addition to the bus service interruption, the Transit Center in Pickering Square will be closed on Saturdays, effective October 5, 2024, until further notice. Officials say they will do their best to keep the center open Monday through Friday, but riders should be prepared if the building is closed. Staffing issues are making it difficult to keep the building open. Any change to the regular schedule will be posted on the Community Connector website, social media, and at the building itself. Applications are being accepted and Community Connector is actively recruiting. Find employment opportunities on the Community Connector website.
