Bangor Drivers To Be Inconvenienced By Broadway Bridge Work
Traffic on Broadway in Bangor will be reduced to one lane during business hours for several days this week.
Bangor's Broadway is a Busy and Often Challenging Street for Drivers
Driving on Broadway is always difficult, with all the businesses, the multiple lanes, and the other drivers who often don't seem to know where they're going. And the recent construction hasn't helped. Crews have been working for months, replacing the overpass that carries traffic on I-95 over the busy street. The shifted lanes on the interstate and abrupt on-ramps from Broadway have been the scene of multiple vehicle crashes. But now, the disruption is happening on Broadway, at a time of high traffic volume.

3 Days This Week, Traffic Will Be Reduced to 1 Lane on Broadway for Construction
Maine Department of Transportation crews will be reducing traffic on Broadway to a single lane beginning on Wednesday and extending through Friday of this week, weather permitting. The closure will happen between 9:00 in the morning and 3:00 in the afternoon, with eastbound traffic (heading toward downtown) reduced to one lane. Two travel lanes will be open for westbound traffic (headed toward Glenburn). Officials say message boards and flaggers will be in place for traffic and to aid pedestrians in the work area. Traffic on I-95 will not be affected by this closure.

The Broadway Bridge Project is Part of a Statewide Initiative
The bridge replacement project began in June 2023 and is part of a multi-year statewide initiative, involving bridge replacements and intersection enhancements. The Maine DOT expects this project to be completed in late 2026.
