Four people are facing charges after police seized a large amount of heroin from a local hotel room.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says four people, who were in the room at the time of the search, were arrested and taken to the Kennebec County Jail. Bail was set at $100,000 for 29-year-old Andrew Redmond of Augusta, 27-year-old Krystle Clark of Sidney, and 27-year-old Danielle Violette of Augusta. Also arrested was 27-year-old Alex Kanaris of Sidney, whose bail was set at $150,000. All four were charged with Aggravated Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs, based upon the quality of the drugs involved.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Augusta Police searched the room at the Augusta Inn on Edison Drive late Monday evening after receiving tips about possible drug trafficking. Seized in that search was over 350 grams of heroin, a small amount of crack cocaine, and $3,852 in cash which is believed to be proceeds from drug sales. The estimated street value of the heroin is more than $70,000.
