An Auburn Man Faces Charges for the Bizarre Attack on the Vehicles
Skyler Henson, 25, of Auburn is charged with aggravated criminal mischief after an incident over the weekend on the dealership's lot.
Maine Police Were Allegedly Called to the Dealership by the Suspect
Auburn Police were called to Rowe's, 699 Center Street, just after 4 in the morning for a 'suspicious condition.' The caller asked that officers come to the dealership so he could speak with them in person. According to a media release on the Auburn PD's Facebook page, he added that 'the sooner police arrived, the less damage there would be.' Dispatchers told authorities they could hear smashing sounds in the background.
When the first officer arrived on scene, he said he saw Henson allegedly swinging a weighted backpack, smashing the windows and hoods of multiple vehicles in the car lot. Officials say Henson was alone in the lot and was immediately taken into custody.
75 Vehicles Sustained Damage in the Early Morning Incident
An initial investigation estimated that Henson allegedly caused between $80,000 and $90,000 in damage to 75 different vehicles. The majority of the damage was to windshields, but many of the vehicles also sustained body damage.
Henson was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail, where bail was set at $5,000 cash.
