BDN: Lawyer For Bar Harbor Murder Suspect Says Police Have Video
The defense attorney for a man accused of killing a Bar Harbor teen says police are reviewing video footage from the night of the murder.
Mikaela Conley was reported missing on June 1 by her family. A search was launched and her body was eventually found in a wooded area near the elementary school by a police canine. Conley's family owns the 2 Cats Restaurant on Cottage Street in Bar Harbor.
Jalique Keene, 21, is being held on a murder charge for Conley's death. The only connection between the two that's been made public is that they both went to MDI High School where Keene played football, He then played college ball at West Virginia State University, and had just recently been playing amateur ball in Serbia. Keene was married in March to a Serbian woman.
Court documents have been impounded and the State Medical Examiner's Office has never released a cause of death. A judge at Keene's bail hearing discouraged those involved with the case to discuss details.
But Keene's attorney, Jeffrey Toothaker, spoke with the BDN and confirmed that there is video footage of the school's playground that was recorded by a security camera mounted outside the school's rear entrance. He did not elaborate about what the video footage might show but said it's currently being reviewed by law enforcement. He told the newspaper he had not yet watched the video.
Police have still not released any sort of motive for Conley's death or any information about what led them to Keene.
