3 Bangor-Area Men Face Trafficking Charges, $200K+ in Coke Seized

A Bangor man and two from Brewer are facing charges after a traffic stop led to the seizure of a significant amount of cocaine.

What Prompted the Investigation?

Officials say United States Postal Inspectors have been working alongside drug agents on an investigation into the distribution of significant amounts of cocaine throughout Penobscot County and elsewhere. In the course of the investigation, Chase Kane, 28, of Bangor was identified as a main suspect in the organization.

What Was Seized?

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says it was early Tuesday morning when a vehicle driven by Kane was stopped on I-95 just north of Newport. A search of the vehicle netted over four pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $200,000.

Who Was Arrested?

Both people in the vehicle were arrested:

• Chase Kane is charged with aggravated trafficking in cocaine. The charge was elevated to aggravated because of the quantity of cocaine seized. He was also charged with violations of conditions of release.
• Benjamin Hughes, 27, of Brewer is charged with aggravated trafficking in cocaine. The charge was elevated to aggravated because of the quantity of cocaine seized.

After the arrest of Kane and Hughes, investigators executed a search warrant at 315 Griffin Road in Bangor and seized more illegal drugs, firearms, and cash. One person was arrested during the search after police seized cocaine, $3,000 in suspected drug proceeds, and a loaded semi-automatic handgun.

• Hayden Taylor, 30, of Brewer is charged with aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Taylor is a convicted felon and so is not allowed to be in possession of firearms.

All three were taken to the Penobscot County Jail and are expected to make their first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
