For the third year in a row, the Eastern Maine Sportsman’s Show has been canceled.

The Penobscot County Conservation Association announced the 82nd Annual Eastern Maine Sportsman’s Show has been scrapped. The annual event was to take place March 11-13, 2022, at The University of Maine in Orono. The show has not been on a hiatus this long since World War II when it was canceled for five years.

Organizers say "there were too many risks and uncertainties at this point to move forward with the show. There was hesitancy among both vendors and the general public to participate in the show with the virus rates currently spiking and the show just seven weeks away."

Some vendors chose to drop from the show due to the University of Maine’s vaccination and masking policies that would have been in place if the show was to happen. Instead, organizers say they will focus their efforts on 2023. The hope is for a return to more normal operations and offerings expected of the Sportsman’s Show.
