Maine State Police Troopers were called to the northbound side of I-95 in Benton on Sunday afternoon at 4:17. When they arrived, they found a vehicle off the right side of the road and confirmed that the sole occupant, Mathieu, was deceased.

Speed is Believed to Have Been a Factor in the I-95 Crash

An initial investigation indicates that Mathieu failed to negotiate a bend in the roadway before going off the right side and striking the guardrail. The 2004 Chevy Trax sustained substantial damage before entering the ditch near the tree line. The exact reason why he left the roadway isn't known but officials say speed and failure to negotiate the roadway were contributing factors.
