10th Annual Hancock County Food Drive
Once in a while, we get hungry. But we get to satisfy the craving, usually very quickly. But that is not the case for so many people, including families with kids, for example. How can a child understand that people they know eat when they get hungry, yet they themselves can not?
According to the Maine Center for Economic Policy, more than one in 10 Maine households goes without nutritious food, making Maine the most food insecure state in New England.
The numbers are even higher for children in Hancock Country.
The 10th annual Hancock County Food Drive is coming up in a few weeks.
Beginning April 3, the annual month-long food collection and fundraising project gets going. Their lofty goal this year is to raise $40,000 for programs in Hancock County. Last year, the drive raised $37,641 and collected 5,000 food items during the month of March, resulting in 150,731 meals.
A series of virtual and outdoor events will be held to achieve the goal. If you would like to make a monetary donation, here’s the link. ou can write a check or make an online donation.
