Update: Prison Escapee Located

Update: 12:15pm Corrections officials report Michaud's  been taken into custody by Probation Officers in Lewiston and will be transported to Androscoggin County Jail.

Corrections officials have issued information to the media regarding this man who apparently walked away from the Downeast Correctional Center in Machiasport.

46 year old John Phillip Michaud was serving a two-year sentence on burglary and theft charges and was due to be released in May of next year.

According to Scott Fish with the Maine Department of Corrections, Michaud walked away from the minimum security facility yesterday afternoon.

It’s an Epidemic That Can Be Stopped

Last week Governor Paul LePage ended his State of the State speech by calling on state lawmakers and citizens to recognize there's a serious epidemic in Maine and it's drug addiction.

One woman in particular was pleased the Governor addressed the issue and agrees with beefing up law enforcement, but, she cautions that's only part of the solution for reversing the powerful grip the disease has on those who struggle to regain control of their lives.

The problem can in fact be reversed, but it will take time, a multifaceted approach, and the commitment from citizens to prioritize financial resources.

A suspect on the run from police following a shooting in Maine is caught in Massachusetts.

Acting Director of Security with the Maine Department of Corrections, Dwight Fowles, says 30 year old Paul Coyne was arrested early this morning by Massachusetts State Police.
