They sing for sex, and their vocal ability is far from what we all consider pleasing to the ear. The Periodical Cicada insect has awoken from its 17-year slumber, and will soon fill the air with a noise that can reach 90 decibels--about the level of an outdoor concert.

The good news with Cicadas? Probably the fact that it'll be another 17 years before they emerge once more.

The bad news for us here in Maine, is that they seem to be moving further north. Right now Connecticut is no stranger to the red-eyed creature.
