Official Cause of Devastating Fire ‘Undetermined’

What sparked a devastating fire in Hancock County that leveled a landmark eatery in Bass Harbor may never be known.

Sgt. Tim York with the State Fire Marshal's office says he and another investigator were on the scene late last evening.

Sgt. York says the fire damage was so extensive they have closed their investigation into the blaze saying they will not be able to determine the exact cause.

It's believed the fire at Cap'n Nemo's may have started in a three-story lighthouse and difficulties with water access made the work of knocking the fire down quite difficult for fire crews.

No one was injured.
