Beyond its natural beauty, including mountains and national parks, Maine's architectural beauty is a sight for sore eyes.

But first, what is ‘old New England?’ Isn’t that an oxymoron? Well, New England is the oldest region in the United States, settled over 150 years before the American Revolution. The first colony, Plymouth Colony, was founded in 1620 by the Puritan Pilgrims escaping religious persecution in England.

Many of the buildings from that time, like the churches, still stand today, highlighting the region's early religious roots. And these early religious roots certainly influence today’s 'beauty standards.'

Maine’s pick on LoveExploring’s list of most beautiful buildings in each state is St. Ann's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport, with LoveExploring saying the following:

The rustic stone architecture might trick you into thinking that this quaint church is a lot older than it is. It was actually built in 1887, and it remains an important place of worship for the Catholic community in Maine. It's renowned for its 25 miniature stained-glass windows too. If you'd like to visit, note that the church is closed during winter.
