Nearly a week after a snake "as long as a truck" was spotted in a Westbrook park, police in that city say a large snake was seen eating an animal, possibly a beaver, early Wednesday morning.

A police officer on patrol spotted the snake on the riverbank in the area of Speirs Street at about 3:30 a.m., according to a post on the Westbrook Police Department's facebook page.

The snake then swam across the Presumpscot River to the riverbank on Brown Street, where it disappeared in the thick underbrush, the post said.

After eating a substantial meal, the Maine Warden Service expects the snake to remain dormant for at least a few days.

It's been dubbed "Wessie" or the "Presumpscot Python" by local residents and is estimated to be at least 10 feet long.

This is the second reported sighting of a large snake in Westbrook. Last Thursday, police said a snake as long as a truck had been spotted in Riverbank Park near the playground.
