A very special dance and auction will be held at Happy Acres in Alton next month to benefit local musician Jessi Mallory. Although Jessi and I have never met, I am a fan of her music that I've sampled online. She is an extremely talented singer, songwriter, musician, and Elvis Tribute artist!

Jessi has been battling cancer and has been very open about her journey, posting updates on Facebook. Now that the journey is (successfully!) coming to an end, the musical community is showing its support with a dance and benefit auction...all to help Jessi cover her medical costs.

The benefit will be held on Sunday, June 9th at Happy Acres Hall in Alton from noon to 5pm.  Entertainment for the day will include The Mainely Country Band, Rockin' Ron, Ranger, Pard and Lisa Higgins, The Allison Ames Band, and Dakota!

A silent auction and refreshments (and, of course, the best dance floor in the area!) will round out the day. Donations are needed for the auction and can be dropped off at Bangor Window Shade, or call Jeff Budge at 990-5029.

I went online to find a video example of Jessi's music and I came across one that really touched my heart. As I mentioned earlier, Jessi is an Elvis Tribute Artist. When she visited Lauderdale Courts, where Elvis lived from 1949-1953, she was honored to sing while sitting on his bed.

I've also included one of Jessi's own songs, to showcase her amazing voice. I hope that you'll turn out and show your support for a young woman who's fought hard to get her life back!
