A Portland man is okay after a scary incident this morning. His car caught fire while he was driving it on Interstate 95 in Pittsfield.

Sergeant Bruce said he saw the 1999 Toyota Camry traveling along the highway around 7:30 this morning and there were flames shooting out from underneath the car. Godefroy Watchiba, 41, was able to pull over quickly and grab some personal items from the car before it was totally engulfed in flames.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release today that Watchiba told police he heard a large noise under the car before he pulled over to investigate. He was unhurt but his car was destroyed.

The Pittsfield Fire Department extinguished the flames. Traffic was reduced to one lane for about an hour.
