The Bangor Art Society is reviving a tradition that dates back to the 1930's by holding a Costume Ball at the Tarratine Club.

The Gala Costume Ball was first held in 1938, and quickly became a much-anticipated event. Attendees dressed as artists, or as characters from a painting. But when WWII broke out, the events were suspended sometime in the 1940's, and had never been started back up again.

That is, until now. The Bangor Art Society is inviting the public to the 141st Anniversary of the event, being held on March 19th. The ball will be held in its traditional location, on the third floor of the building on the corner of Exchange and York Streets. Once home to the Tarratine Club, it was exclusive, and included businessmen and city leaders, including Hannibal Hamlin. These days, the Tarratine Building houses a full-service event center.

Eastern Standard Trio will provide the music, and there will be a cash bar, refreshments, and a Silent Masterpiece Auction. As is tradition, attendees will be expected to wear the traditional artistic costumes.
