A Coastal Cancer Center Gets a Big Gift

A donation from Hannaford helps to support the services of a new cancer treatment center in Ellsworth.

Officials from the local Ellsworth Hannaford Supermarket & Pharmacy gathered at the entrance of the new Mary Dow Center to present the check to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.

The Mary Dow Center for Cancer Care was officially opened in January of this year at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital.

A portion of the over twenty-one thousand dollar donation will be used to purchase and install flow benches in the Center’s dedicated pharmacy. These flow benches are specifically designed to continuously deliver airflow away from the pharmacy user to the work area.

The remaining funds will enable the Hospital to purchase three mobile, patient medication carts for the new Center. These enhancements will directly improve patient safety and advance quality care.

Hospital CEO Charlie Therrien stated, “The Hannaford Foundation and the local Ellsworth Hannaford supermarket are generous supporters of the Hospital’s programs and are valuable sponsors of our fundraising events. On behalf of the Hospital staff and the many patients who benefit from the Mary Dow Center’s services, it’s a pleasure to name the Mary Dow Center pharmacy in Hannaford’s honor.”
