A 79-year-old woman was critically injured on Tuesday when a tree fell on her vehicle, impaling her.

Tuesday was a wild day, with some incredibly high winds that caused a freak accident, sending two elderly people to the hospital. A 78-year-old man was driving an SUV on Pond Road in Sidney just after 10:00 Tuesday morning, with his 79-year-old wife sitting in the passenger seat. Suddenly a pine tree snapped as they passed by, and a branch from the tree fell onto their vehicle. It pierced the dashboard of the vehicle and impaled the woman, as she sat in her seat.

Both occupants were transported to the hospital, where the man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. According to WGME-TV, the woman was in critical condition.
