Wardens say speed and alcohol contributed to a snowmobile accident in Wayne that killed a Massachusetts woman.

56-year-old Martha Carroll of Brighton, Massachusetts was killed when she was riding a snowmobile on the west shore of Wilson Pond in Wayne. At approximately 5:45 Saturday evening, the sled crashed into some trees at a high rate of speed.

Wardens say the sled belonged to Carroll's boyfriend and she was wearing a ski-type helmet at the time of the accident. The initial investigation indicates that inexperience, speed, and alcohol all appear to be factors in the crash.

This is Maine's ninth fatal snowmobile crash this season.
