The National Weather Service on Sunday issued a winter weather advisory for Bangor and most of northern and eastern Maine, warning of slick driving conditions Sunday night and Monday morning.

Forecasters say light snow will begin later this Sunday with light accumulations of 1-2 inches expected across much of the area.

The advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday.

The precipitation will transition to sleet or freezing rain across central Maine and interior Downeast near the Monday morning commute. A glaze of ice is expected in the advisory area. All precipitation will taper by mid-morning.

Forecasters say motorists can expect slippery roads and limited visibility. Drivers are urged to use caution.
