Winter Storm Watch: Nearly Two Feet Of Snow Possible For Bangor Area
A weekend storm may bury Bangor in as much as two feet of snow.
The National Weather Service on Friday updated a Winter Storm Watch for the Bangor area and Eastern Maine. A winter storm late Saturday night into Monday could drop 18 to 24 inches of snow on the area. Coastal areas may see 10 to 16 inches of snow followed by ice accumulations of around three tenths of an inch.
Forecasters say travel could be very difficult to impossible during the storm.
Following the storm, an arctic air mass will push into Maine. Wind chills are expected to dip as low as 20 below.
Emera Maine officials said Friday they are bringing in additional personnel from out-of-state, in addition to its full compliment of crews, in anticipation of potential power outages resulting from the Sunday storm.
With the storm system and extreme cold in the forecast, people are urged to:
- Get sufficient supplies of food, fuel, batteries and all needed prescriptions.
- Be sure generators and space heaters are properly installed and well ventilated.
- Make a plan for where to shelter if an extended outage prevents safe heating of your home.
- Abide by travel advisories.
- Check on your neighbors.
- NEVER touch a downed power line or a tree in contact with a line.
