Wiffle Ball Tourney for Make-A-Wish Maine Set for August

It is the largest WIFFLE ball tournament in the state. And bonus, proceeds go to benefit the kids of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine.

Wayne’s WIFFLE for a Wish 2021 will be Saturday August 21, and this will be its thirteenth year.

For the record, Wayne Harvey is behind the tourney, and he’s the same Wayne Harvey with nearly 30 years on radio and television in Bangor, plus 22 years as the track announcer at Bangor Raceway.

Wayne is now on 92.9 The Ticket, a station that is owned by Townsquare Media, the same company that owns Q106.5. So since Wayne is a co-worker, we asked him how he came up with a Wiffle Ball Tournament:

“One of our daughters had a medical procedure which was non life threatening , but led to on going issues. And when she was in the hospital, we saw other families with children who were dealing with more dire situations and circumstances. The first thought that came to mind was ‘How do we help?’

Wayne was a news anchor at WABI-TV5 then and that is when the first tourney was held in 2009.

Twelve years later the tournament has raised a total of $126,000, and all profits help Make A Wish Maine do the amazing things they do.

There are thee months to go until the tournament, and at this stage the focus is on getting teams entered and sponsors lined up.  You can go here for the how-to.

To enter a team, it’s only $100 if you do so before August 1. Most teams have 4 or 5 players, so it is only $20 or $25 per person.
