One of the most photographed lighthouses in the world can be found right here in Maine—but where are the most concentrated in our Pine Tree State?

Lighthouses are one of the most iconic symbols of Maine, especially along the coast—you’ll spot them on every postcard and tourist photo. And can you blame anyone? These historic structures are beautiful, timeless, and still standing strong, giving us something to be proud of.

So, given all of that, before we get to the where, how many lighthouses are actually kicking around and available to be seen in Maine?

According to Maine Tourism’s website, there are 65 lighthouses located throughout our state. And while that may sound like a lot, Maine doesn’t hold the top spot—Michigan does, with over 129.

Well, having said all that, how are we judging this? How do we know which area of Maine has the most lighthouses?

To figure out where you can find the most lighthouses in Maine, we checked out the Maine Tourism website, which tracks where each one is located. They break the state into five regions—MidCoast & Islands, DownEast & Acadia, Greater Portland & Casco Bay, The Maine Beaches, and The Kennebec Valley—making it easy to see which area has the most.

Additionally, when you break it down even further and look at individual towns and their lighthouses, Vinalhaven is the only town listed with more than two.

The lighthouses located in Vinalhaven are Brown's Head Light, Heron Neck Light, and Saddleback Ledge Light.
