Folks have been asking on a Brewer-based Facebook page that I follow....

What's that thing they're building in the middle of the Brewer Hannaford parking lot???

Since we have a similar structure in Hampden where I live, I had a pretty good idea what was going down. But I trekked up to the Brewer location, and after a quick conversation with an employee, my suspicions were proven correct.

It's going to be a new kiosk of sorts, that will be where you drop off all your Clynk bags full of your returnables. If you want to know more about the Clynk service, check out this link. It's pretty cool way of getting rid of your returnables, and takes all the hassle out of the process. You just take the bag home, fill it up, and drop it off. Pretty simple.

Now, this is pure speculation on my part, but I'm guessing they just want to get the bottle return stuff out of the building. I imagine all the syrupy soda and beer cans and such make unwanted pests and critters jump for joy. But since Hannaford is a grocery store, I could see why they might think it's a good idea to get it all as far away from the food as possible for sanitation reasons. Again, just a guess on my part.

No official word on when it will be up and running, but for the meantime, if you're already using Clynk, just keep bringing bottles and cans into the store. But soon enough, you'll be able to pull right up next to the kiosk, scan your loot, and drop it in!

So there. That's one Scooby Doo mystery solved.
