Vandals and thieves have been targeting the construction site of the new Sanford High School, the most expensive school construction project in Maine history.

WGME reports the thefts and vandalism could delay the more than $100 million project and increase costs.

Officials say thieves have persistently been entering the construction site and stealing equipment.

Workers believe the thieves are accessing the site from nearby trails.

Police are investigating the crimes, but so far no arrests have been made.

Workers say they've tried to catch the individuals themselves, but so far they've come up empty. They say they have a few more tricks up their sleeve that they aren't sharing.

The construction company says it now has some new equipment that may help them catch the people responsible for the rash of crimes.
