UPDATE: All 5 JOANN Fabric Stores in Maine to Close
After initial reports suggested that not every JOANN Fabric in Maine would close, those reports have changed, and now all five locations are set to close.

Closings are never easy, and in 2025, they seem to hit even harder—for workers losing their jobs, communities losing a staple store, and the local economy taking another blow. After months of uncertainty, it’s now confirmed that all five JOANN Fabric stores in Maine will be shutting their doors.
JOANN Fabric, the popular fabric and craft retailer, is closing all of its nearly 800 stores after failing to find a buyer to keep them open.
The company, which has been in business for over 80 years, will begin nationwide going-out-of-business sales as part of its shutdown process.
Originally founded as the Cleveland Fabric Shop during World War II, JOANN Fabric was once the largest fabric retailer in the U.S.
While that may have been the case at one point, JOANN Fabric has recently faced financial struggles and filed for bankruptcy twice, most recently in 2024. At the time of its latest filing, the company had approximately 19,000 employees, the majority of whom were part-time.
With that, all five JOANN Fabrics stores in Maine will be closing as part of the company's nationwide shutdown.
While the initial closure list included locations in Auburn, Topsham, and Waterville, the Bangor and Portland stores have now been added. JOANN Fabric has posted an FAQ on its website with details about the going-out-of-business sales, which are slated to begin immediately.
And that's the situation—while earlier reports indicated that only a few JOANN Fabric stores in Maine would be closing, it now appears that all of them will begin the going-out-of-business process.
