Two people are accused of fleeing an accident in which a passenger was injured and trapped inside the vehicle.

The accident happened at around 6:45 p.m. on March 28th. State Police responded to a vehicle off the road on Route 163 in Mapleton. When they got to the scene, they found 54-year-old Carla Bragdon of Ashland trapped inside the vehicle and hurt. Troopers got her out of the car and she was taken to the Aroostook Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Trooper Nick Casavant learned that a man and woman had fled from the scene before he got there.

An investigation into the accident revealed that the car had been taken from the owner without their permission in Ashland. This week, 44-year-old Edward Wetherell of Ashland and 48-year-old Tracy Tompkins of Ashland were arrested. Wetherell is charged with Operating after Revocation, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Unauthorized Use of Property, and Violation of Bail. Tompkins was arrested on two outstanding warrants.
