A tractor-trailer struck a utility pole, overturned and spilled its load of wood chips Tuesday in Masardis.

Kerry Holmes, 59, of Molunkis was traveling south on Route 11 when he "rounded a corner and suddenly was unable to steer the vehicle," state police said in a news release Tuesday.

The truck rolled onto its side and struck a pole, coming to rest on the roadway with the chips spilling into a ditch.

The truck, owned by Keith Mitchell and Son’s Trucking of Sherman, sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The fuel tank was ruptured, and the Department of Environmental Protection responded to oversee the cleanup.

Holmes suffered minor injuries in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation, and the vehicle will be examined by the State Police Commercial Vehicle Unit.
