Transient Man Arrested While Trying To Pawn Stolen Items, Bath Police Say
A transient man was arrested for burglarizing a pair of homes in Bath after police say he tried to pawn some of the stolen items.
Shawn Toothaker, 39, whose last known address was in Harpswell, was charged with 2 counts of residential burglary and one count of illegal possession of a firearm by prohibited person.
Police responded to the home break-ins on Ridge Road Tuesday at about 4:30 p.m. Both residences were unlocked, and police said Toothaker entered the homes while the owners were away. Jewelry, cash and other items were reported stolen from the homes.
Toothaker was located the next day at a Brunswick pawn shop as he was attempting to sell some of the stolen items, police said.
He was taken to the Bath Police Department, where detectives say they confirmed that the items Toothaker had in his possession came from the burglarized homes on Ridge Road.
Toothaker has a criminal history that includes prior burglary, theft and drug possession convictions.
He will appear in West Bath District Court Sept. 5.
Police said the burglaries remains under investigation and additional arrests are possible.
