A movie on Netflix right now, 'The Hole' brings a thrilling and compelling adventure in a kid-friendly way. Well worth the watch!

Jim and I kicked off Horror Movie Month (an October tradition in our house) with a few flicks yesterday, while the rain pounded on our metal roof and the wind rattled the windows. (Perfect horror movie weather!)

I wasn't overly impressed with 'After,' a movie about two people who wake up after a bus accident and believe they're the only people left in town. The premise was cool but, for me, the story and acting were lacking. We also watched 'Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.' I'll admit that I'm not a big fan of this series of movies, but this one at least had some laughs. But, by the end of it, the story had become so convoluted that it was confusing. And the constant 'running with camera' shots had me feeling a little sick.

The best part of our evening, by far,  was the first movie we wached.  'The Hole' is not exactly a horror movie, but more of a thriller, although there are certainly some scary characters in it. Done by Joe Dante, who also brought us 'Gremlins' and 'Small Soldiers,' they're kid-friendly. Not small children, mind you, but kids who can handle things that are supposed to be cute suddenly turning scary.

This movie has an awesome story line that takes you through an unexpected adventure, starting with the discovery of a hole in the floor of a basement. The acting is pretty solid overall, and the interaction between the two brothers will keep you laughing throughout the movie. Not a horror flick, per say, but it absolutely has some freaky moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
