This ‘Mainer’ Is Playing Against Boston in the NBA Playoffs
There haven’t been many people born in Maine who have made it into the NBA, let alone into the NBA Playoffs. Well, this one is playing against our Boston Celtics.
The Boston Celtics, the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs, are looking to get revenge in their rematch against the Miami Heat.
This matchup is a repeat of last year's Eastern Conference Finals, where the Heat clinched the series in seven games.
In that series, the Heat initially dominated with a 3-0 lead, but the Celtics rallied back, winning three consecutive games to force a win-or-go-home game 7.
These two squads know each other very well, with this actually being the fourth postseason matchup between these teams in the last five seasons.
But who is this 'Mainer' that’s playing against the Boston Celtics in this year’s NBA playoff run?
Duncan Robinson, the sharpshooting wing for the Miami Heat, has been making waves with his team seemingly ever since he entered the league. But did you know that he was actually born in our Pine Tree State?
York, Maine, may be known for its coastal beauty, with several villages like York Village, York Harbor, York Beach, and Cape Neddick, but it’s also known as the birthplace of future 2x NBA Finals player, Duncan Robinson.
While Robinson was born in York, he actually grew up in New Castle, New Hampshire.
Robinson attended Rye Junior High School before making the decision to attend The Governor's Academy in Massachusetts instead of his local public high school in Portsmouth.
After going undrafted in 2018, the Miami Heat brought Robinson into their organization, where he played a significant role in reaching the 2020 and 2023 NBA Finals.
In terms of his three-point shooting abilities, Robinson has garnered several records in the NBA. Robinson became the fastest player to achieve 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, and 800 career three-pointers, leaving a mark in the league's history books.
Listen, we’re all for championing and lifting up Mainers and celebrating Maine-born success, but with that being said, go Celtics!
