A 19-year-old Whiting woman died in a single-vehicle crash in Whiting.

Maine State Police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office are investigating the crash in Edmunds that happened Wednesday night. Officials say the driver of the Toyota Camry, 19-year-old Meghan McPhail of Whiting, was traveling north on Route 1 when the accident happened. McPhail was alone in the car and died as a result of her injuries. No details have been released about what caused her to leave the roadway.

Officials say the woman was not wearing a seatbelt. Speed, alcohol, and fatigue are all possible factors in the accident, which remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Dennysville Ambulance, as well as members of the Dennysville and Whiting Fire Departments.
