Two accidents last night on Maine roads have resulted in fatalities. Police in Old town report a 54 year old woman was killed when she was struck from behind while walking on Poplar Street around 6:30 last night. Police say the driver of the SUV that struck the woman stopped immediately and tried to render assistance while calling police.

The incident we reported earlier this morning in Trenton has resulted in a man being hospitalized and charged with aggravated assault. The violence started to unfold early this morning when a woman was able to run for help after being stabbed.

Little detail is known at this hour from the actual scene but State Police do confirm a stand off of sorts with a subject in the woods in Trenton this morning. Trenton Fire was called out shortly after 3 this morning to assist the state police on the Oak Point Road.

A traffic advisory from the Maine Department of Transportation as State Police reported a crash on the Interstate this morning. The crash involved a tractor trailer and another vehicle according to the MDOT and State Police say the accident resulted in a temporary partial shutdown and detour.

A prison inmate is dead and the circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation. Stephen Ray Gravel, age 53, had served approximately 5 years of a 16 year sentence for gross sexual assault, according to a press release received this morning from the Maine Department of Corrections.

As another round of wintry weather hits the state, it has arrived in southern Maine, starting as light snow, and that has caused slippery conditions. It has also caused another accident involving a Maine State Trooper.

A State Trooper is recovering from injuries he sustained after his cruiser was struck by another vehicle while he was sitting parked at the scene of a crash in Southern Maine. Trooper William Baker was treated and released Sunday from the hospital in York. He has a number of bumps and bruises.

Some of Maine's state police force is now better protected thanks to a non profit organization. A total of eight K9 officers have been outfitted with new vests.

Two men face charges after state police resolve a standoff peacefully in the Washington County town of Harrington. The incident started yesterday afternoon when state police were called to the Robinson home and shutdown a portion of Route 1.
