A man from Milbridge died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash in Sullivan.

Sullivan, Maine Crash Claims Life of Milbridge Man

The Hancock County Sheriff's Department has identified the victim as Gared Birdtail, 32, of Milbridge and Michigan.

It was just after 10:30 on Tuesday morning when the Hancock County Regional Communications Center began receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 1, near the intersection with Taunton Drive in Sullivan.

Speed May Have Contributed to a Fatal Crash in Sullivan, Maine

Witnesses told deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office that Birdtail had been traveling west at a high rate of speed just before the crash happened. Officials say Birdtail was unable to negotiate a curve and went down a small embankment, off the right-side of the road.

The vehicle traveled a short distance before hitting a tree, rolling onto its roof, and then struck another tree.

Milbridge, Maine and Michigan Man Killed in Sullivan Crash

Mr. Birdtail was declared deceased at the scene, from injuries sustained in the crash.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
