Skeletal Remains Found in Augusta Woods, Foul Play Not Suspected
Police are investigating the discovery of human remains in a wooded area of Augusta.
A hunter came across the human remains on Saturday, while in a wooded area behind Central Maine Power's main building at the end of Edison Drive in Augusta. The discovery was not reported until Saturday evening, so officials didn't arrive on the scene until Sunday. At that point, Augusta Police Officers and Detectives, State Police Detectives, and Evidence Response Team Members, as well as an investigator from the Chief Medical Examiner's Office began looking into the death.
The remains have been taken to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office and will be examined to try and determine the identification. State Police Detectives say they think the remains have been there more than a year and, actually, likely longer than that.
Officials say there's nothing suspicious about this death and no indication of foul play.
We'll update this story as more details become available.
