Police are searching for a person believed to have stolen several vehicles in Bangor and Eddington today, who may pose a threat to the public.

How Were People Alerted to This Case?

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says several police agencies in the greater Bangor area are working together, looking for a person who's believed to have been involved in at least one theft of a motor vehicle. State Police received a report just before 9:00 Tuesday morning of a gray Ford Fusion being operated erratically on Route 1A in Dedham. The vehicle was traveling toward Ellsworth but, when police tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver made a U-Turn and began heading toward Holden. Police pursued the vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed. It turned onto Route 46 and followed it til Route 9 in Eddington, where the driver turned toward Brewer. At this point, the vehicle pulled into Autoworks in Eddington and struck a parked vehicle before the driver fled on foot.

That crash took down a power line, which resulted in Route 9 being closed to traffic until Versant Power could fix it.

Where Were the Other Vehicles Stolen?

Shortly after this incident, police learned of a GMC pickup truck that had been stolen from a home in Eddington, about a quarter mile from Autoworks. The owner of the truck was in the vehicle when the suspect pulled him out and then took off in the pickup. The truck's owner wasn't hurt.

A short time later, police received a report that the pickup was found at Peavey Manufacturing on Route 9. It was recovered a short time later and police learned a black Toyota Camry had also been stolen. The car had been in the parking lot with the keys inside it. At last report, the Camry and the suspect had not been found by police.

Have Police Located a Suspect?

Police say they do not, as yet, have an identity or description but say that they do believe the suspect poses a threat to the public. Officials are actively working to identify the suspect and take him into custody.
