A serious crash shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Orono Monday, with the driver airlifted to a Bangor hospital with injuries.

Police say the single vehicle and its lone occupant were reported off the road at mile marker 191 in Orono at 12:51 p.m. The interstate was closed so the person could be transported to an area hospital via helicopter.

Police identified the driver as Alexander Littlefield, 19, of Bradley. Police said Littlefield’s car went out of control in the southbound lane, went into the median, overturned and struck several trees.

The interstate was reopened to traffic.
