The holiday season is upon us, and it's time for families to sign up to receive gifts from the Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program. Each year, the folks at the Salvation Army help to provide presents and sometimes even a holiday meal for families who are struggling. If you'd like to see if you qualify for this program, you need to make an appointment soon!

The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program provides Christmas gifts for children from birth through age 17. For anyone who's never heard of it, here's how it works!

To start, you need to make an appointment with Bangor Citadel Corps by calling 941-2990 for an interview. Registration ends on November 21st, so do it soon! Interviews are being held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 1 to 4pm.

You'll be asked to provide proof of residency, documenting your current address. This includes one of the following: a current TANF statement, Social Security statements, or a recent utility bill. Families need to be residents of the following towns: Bangor, Brewer, Exeter, Glenburn, Hermon, Kenduskeag, Levant, Orrington, and Veazie.

Parents also need to provide proof of dependants, documenting the children who live with them. This includes one of the following for each child: a current TANF statement that lists children, MaineCare ID cards, birth certificates, or court papers. They should also bring a list for each child with suggestions for one large toy, one small toy, one stocking stuffer, and sizes for coats, shoes, pants, and shirts.

Cardboard angel ornaments are set up for each child with requests for the gifts they want. Folks can visit the Angel Tree booth in the Bangor Mall, during the Christmas season, pick one or more "angels" and buy the gifts. They will then return the unwrapped gifts to the Angel Tree booth and the Salvation Army will make sure they are delivered to the children by Christmas.

To make an appointment or for more information, call Bangor Citadel Corps at 941-2990.
