Repairs Made to Kenduskeag Stream Trail in Downtown Bangor

Long-awaited repairs have been to a section of the Kenduskeag Stream Trail.

Back in December of 2020, a portion of the retaining wall along the Kenduskeag Stream deteriorated and fell into the stream. The section of trail between Franklin Street and the parking lot behind the Penobscot County Jail had to be closed while crews made the necessary repairs.

A sewer line that runs immediately behind the wall upped the urgency in getting the problem fixed quickly. However, the weather and the permitting process caused delays in getting the job underway. The project was ultimately postponed to spring 2021.

City of Bangor engineer, John Theriault, told News Center Maine crews built a new gabion wall in front of the old concrete wall to support the stream bank. The repairs had to be done during the lowest tide levels.

An assessment will be done on other sections of the retaining wall along the stream to spot any other trouble areas.
