A 14-year-old boy from Strong made a rare discovery last week, a blue-colored green frog.

Konor Dyer was looking for a frog to enter into the frog jumping contest at Phillips Old Home Days.

Konor made the discovery in his grandparents’ pigpen in Phillips.

"It’s a relatively rare occurrence, as we generally receive only one report a year of a blue frog," the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said on Facebook. "This year, we have had three, including a blue bull frog."

"They get that green color from a combination of yellow and blue pigments in their skin, but this green frog is lacking yellow pigment, and that is why he is mostly blue."

The post said Konor would return the frog to its home after the contest.
