Police say three people died early this morning in an accident in Westbrook.

Westbrook Police cautioned drivers of several serious accidents due to black ice, in the area of County Road and Spring Street. Westbrook Police say that one of those accidents involved a car and a taxi, that collided just before 7:00. All three people in the taxi are said to have died in the crash. The driver of the car was taken to Maine Medical Center with unspecified injuries. Police have not released the names of those involved, pending notification of next of kin.

County Road was closed for several hours, while the scene was cleared and accident investigated. It's now reopened to traffic.
