Police Now Say Ellsworth Woman's Death Not Suspicious

The Maine Department of Public Safety has identified a woman whose body was found on Tuesday, and now say the death does not appear suspicious.

Kathie Cote was found deceased in her home on Tuesday, when police were asked to do a wellbeing check. Originally, it appeared that the death may have been suspicious, so officials scheduled an autopsy with the Office of the Medical Examiner.

The examination was completed on Wednesday, but the determination of cause of death is pending, while officials await the results of toxicology tests. However, police say, at this point, it does not show anything suspicious.

An investigation determined that Cote was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and, out of respect for the family, no further information will be released.
