Police Identify Woman Whose Body Was Found In Car Trunk
Police have released the identity of a woman whose body was found in the trunk of a car, and say that she was murdered.
The Worcester Telegram says Massachusetts police have identified the woman as 28-year-old Maddilyn Burgess. An autopsy determined that she died of blunt force trauma and officials have ruled her death and the death of Gyrth Rutan a murder-suicide.
The woman's body was found in the trunk of a vehicle driven by Rutan, of Sturbridge, Massachusetts, who was pulled over Thursday in Gardiner by Maine State Police for driving erratically. When Rutan exited his vehicle, he shot himself in the head with a shotgun. During a search of his vehicle, police found Burgess in the trunk. Rutan is originally from the Brewer area and, according to this Facebook page, had gone to Brewer and Hermon high schools.
Sturbridge and State Police have labeled Rutan's residence as a crime scene. There's no word on his relationship to Burgess.
The case remains under investigation.
