Penobscot Job Corps in Bangor is inviting the public in on Thursday to tour the campus and learn more about its programs.

For anyone unfamiliar with this program, it's administered by the United States Department of Labor, and helps young people, between ages 16 and 24, improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. It's a no-cost education for qualified students.

Job Corps provides programs like carpentry, welding, facilities maintenance, certified nurse and medical assistant training, and culinary arts. I've worked on a Habitat for Humanity project alongside some of the students from Job Corp and found them to be smart, dedicated, and passionate about helping others.

On Thursday, the folks at Penobscot Job Corps are inviting the public into the facility on Thursday, between 10 and 2. WABI-TV reports tours will be given of the campus and offering information about its programs. Folks are encouraged to stick around for a free cookout and some giveaways.

Anyone planning to attend will need to bring a photo I.D.
