Officials reported four confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor on Thursday.

Penobscot County Sheriff Troy Martin said a female inmate tested positive for COVID-19. The case was detected during the jail's inmate transfer procedures.

After that initial test, officials tested everyone in the jail. A total of four inmates, all in the same area, where found to be positive, Morton said.

All COVID-19 protocols -- including screening, quarantine practices, PPE use, testing, and vaccinations -- were in place, Morton said.

Jail officials have notified the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
