Bob’s Kozy Korner Store in Orrington Closed Today Due to a Fire
No one was hurt when a fire broke out in a second-floor apartment at Bob's Kozy Korner Store in Orrington.
According to a post on the store's Facebook page, crews were called to the business at approximately 2:00 Wednesday morning. Bob's Kozy Korner sits at the intersection of Brewer Lake Road, Fields Pond Road, and Johnson Mill Road in Orrington, and sits next to what used to be the town's fire station. The new public safety building is just a short distance down Center Drive, so crews were on the scene quickly.
The fire was located in an apartment that sits above the store and the tenant was able to get out safely. As of 6:00 Wednesday morning, firefighters were still at the scene, chasing down hot spots. It does not appear that the store, itself, suffered any fire damage, but there was extensive water damage.
Bob's Kozy Korner will be closed, indefinitely, until the owners can mop up and repair the damage that was done. The store is central to the community, offering not only groceries but also a variety of hot foods and pizzas to-go. In addition, it is the town's weigh station during hunting season. In the summer during Orrington's Old Home Week, Bob's Kozy Korner Store is the scene of the SedgeunkeDuck Regatta, when rubber ducks purchased by local residents are set afloat down the Sudgeunkedunk stream in a race for prizes.
