Orono Planetarium Explores the Christmas Star This Friday [VIDEO]

Are you looking for a little more plausible reasoning to complete your Christmas experience this year?  Maybe a different way of looking at the true events around one of the oldest stories of the world?

The Emera Astronomy Center on the University of Maine Campus is showing a full-dome planetarium show based on discovering "a scientific explanation for the Star the wise men followed to find the baby Jesus" this  Friday, December 22nd.

The UMaine website for the planetarium describes this show as a way to find scientific plausibility in a story that has survived millennia and that has become the basis for our celebration of Christmas.

Journey back 2000 years to Bethlehem as we seek to discover a scientific explanation for the Star the wise men followed to find the baby Jesus. Investigate possible dates for the birth of Christ and look at recorded sightings of significant historical and astronomical events during this timeframe. We’ll explore scientific explanations for celestial objects that could have been remarkable enough to cause the wise men to travel across the desert from Babylon to Bethlehem just to see a newborn King.
